The story continues...
We received a letter from Major
Walter May informing us that Jason was made
commanding officer of Company F and promoted to the
rank of Captain six days before his death. Papers
were not filed due to battle events.
We have received word that Roger
Pillu, who was instrumental in finding and returning
Jason’s Helmet, passed away this week in France.
Not enough can be said about his dedication to
returning the helmet and giving us a sense of peace
about the sacrifice of Jason and his five men.
Roger will be remembered by us and the readers of
our book, Jason’s
Emerson S. Barron, 85, of
Hagerstown, Md., and formerly of Williamsport, Md.,
died Thursday, Sept. 22, 2011, at the VA Medical Center
in Martinsburg, W.Va.
Jason’s Helmet was his story as much as anyone
elses. He and his family mourned Jason’s
death in the war. He was forever grateful to the new
friends in France who returned the helmet of his
brother and gave a little bit of peace of mind where
only feelings of loss and mourning existed.
